Shameless Sexuality: Life After Purity Culture explores sex, bodies, pleasure, relationships, and identity after restrictive religious teachings. Founded by Janice Selbie, MPCC, the conference brings together therapists, researchers, educators, authors, advocates, and people with lived experience for candid conversations about subjects many of us were once taught were shameful, dangerous, or simply off-limits.
Shameless speakers have tackled everything from sexual shame, consent, desire, masturbation, pornography, and the orgasm gap to LGBTQ+ experiences, disability, kink, monogamy, polyamory, and pleasure.
Presenters have included Dr. Darrel Ray, Dr. Laurie Mintz, Dr. Marlene Winell, Erica Smith, Anthony Venn-Brown, Mandisa Thomas, and Alice Greczyn.
Charone Pagett explored how purity culture ignores disabled women, Professor Quantas Ginn spoke about embracing your sexy self, and Kristin Cherry Jackson examined coercion and sexual obligation.
Shameless Sexuality conferences are for people recovering from purity culture or other restrictive religious teachings about sexuality, as well as therapists, coaches, educators, and others who want to better understand their lasting effects.
At its heart, Shameless Sexuality is about curiosity, autonomy, and choice. It's a place to examine what you were taught, understand what you may still be carrying, and discover what sexuality and relationships can look like on your own terms.
